The Automaton:

For the last shoot of the semester, it only felt right to do something that sits with you. The Automaton refers to how people control other people around you; even though you may not feel it, you’re always under a watchful eye. Think of futuristic puppeteering- a strong concept, we know. Get ready to get weird, because this shoot is full of surreal stylings and and maximalist makeup.

Creative Direction - Photography

• Distortion
  • Distortion (done either with certain camera lenses or in editing) is often an indicator of surrealism and a lack of structure. Try to accentuate different body parts and props with distortion.

• Angles
  • Dramatic low angles, high angles and angles that play with the space and the models’ poses. Again, make it surrealistic!

Set Direction - STUDIO

• SIMPLE

  • The set is not the star here, the set is the void!
  • Use the plain backdrop as a template to play with in the edit and day of photography

• Green Screen (maybe…)
